For a second consecutive year, the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn School District is dedicating itself to the same overall goal.
Superintendent Greg Dufoe tells Raccoon Valley Radio their Wildly Important Goal (WIG) is lowering their percentage of students who are not proficient in their grade level for literacy from 18 to 10 percent. He says their WIG relates to the book that the school district also adopted called, “The Four Disciplines of Execution” by Franklin Covey. Dufoe says the top discipline is having a narrow set of goals.
“We saw great gains last year and so we have a ton of energy to continue and do the same this year. But it is that focus that literacy, being able to read and write effectively is mission central to us. That’s why for the second year in a row literacy is our Wildly Important Goal. So we’re getting after it.”
Dufoe points out they are no longer using the covid pandemic as an excuse for not trying to make better progress on hitting literacy standards with students. The other three disciplines of execution include acting on lead measures, keeping a compelling scoreboard and creating a cadence of accountability.
