A Jefferson man was recently sentenced to prison for violating the Iowa Sex Offender Registry requirements.

According to court documents, 38-year-old Dustin Evans pled guilty to a Class D Felony for his second or subsequent offense for sex offender registry violation. Greene County Attorney Thomas Laehn argued for prison and the defense attorney wanted probation. District Court Judge Joseph McCarville agreed with Laehn and Evans was sentenced to prison.

The charge stemmed from an investigation with the Greene County Sheriff’s Office on March 18th. After receiving a call about a possible sex offender registry violation, it was discovered that on January 21st, Evans claimed to be living at a residence in Grand Junction and was employeed at a business in Scranton. However, the investigating deputy found out that Evans was actually living at a residence in Jefferson with another woman and two teenage children, and was employed in Jefferson, which Evans was supposed to have notified the sheriff’s office that he moved residences and was living with minors.

Evans was convicted of a sex offense crime in 2009 in Story County and has twice violated the conditions of the statewide registry. Evans was then charged with the felony and two additional Class D Felonies for child endangerment sex offense against a minor, which were dismissed at sentencing, along with the habitual offender status with the other felony charge.
