The last week of Preparedness Month, wants to put a focus on community involvement.
Emergency Management Coordinator For Adair and Guthrie Counties Bob Kempf says that talking with your employer and having an emergency preparedness plan at work is a portion of the community involvement aspect. He also says volunteerism is a fantastic way to put the focus on preparedness.
“Then as far as the volunteerism side of things, you know, all 14 of our communities in Adrian Guthrie County have a volunteer fire department, you know, getting involved with that. And that doesn’t mean necessarily wearing bunker gear and being out on the end of a hose line, you know, but it’s just supporting them. Maybe it’s just showing up with water and things like that. Being there to help out, being there to help direct some traffic around the scene. All of our fire departments can use extra help.”
Kempf adds that a great way for people to help their neighbors is taking a CPR class.
