A reminder that today there are lots of activities happening in downtown Jefferson.
It’s Art on the Square where 15 local and regional artists will have booths on Chestnut Street, along with food trucks and kids activities throughout the day from 10am-4pm. There will also be musical entertainment with a Des Moines Latin band Parranderos that is performing on the south side of the Greene County Courthouse from 11am-12:30pm. Additionally, Chad Elliot will perform at the Thomas Jefferson Gardens of Greene County from 1-4pm as part of the final Summer Concert Series for the Gardens.
Art on the Square Chair Ginny Showman talks about why they wanted to have this kind of cultural event.
“Well I’m part of Tower View Team, which is the artist arm of (Jefferson Matters) Main Street, and we’re always looking for ways to highlight public art. A few years ago I asked the question, ‘Why don’t we have an art fair?’ And so now we do. This is our third one. It’s been pretty well received. The artists have liked coming to Jefferson. They said the people appreciate the art, they appreciate the hard work that comes with it. But they also appreciate that Jefferson itself, the community, has embraced public art and you can see when you walk around our square.”
The kids’ activities and the musical performances are free. Attendees are asked to bring a chair for the shows.
