The Adair County Health Services Senior Life Solutions wants to spread the word during National Suicide Prevention Month about their group therapy sessions.
Director Dianne Allsup says they have group therapy sessions three times a week for those who are 65 years or older. She talks about the goals of each therapy session.
“We work with a therapist, will work with the group to just help you feel connected, to help you work toward a better quality of life, struggling with the transitions in life, getting that help and having somebody help you learn coping skills and connect with other people and just, you know, hearing feedback from other group members about what they’re going through. And you kind of connect.”Allsup says the group therapy normally has seven to 10 people in them. She points out that anyone can refer someone to their program including self-referrals, primary care physicians, specialists, family members and friends.
