Yesterday the West Central Valley volleyball team traveled to Des Moines to take part in a triangular that also included the Des Moines North Polar Bears, and Grand View Christian Thunder. Look for more on those scores and stats later.
Tonight the Wildcats football team will be heading to Van Meter to take on the Bulldogs in their homecoming game. The Bulldogs are coming off a win from last week, where they beat the Panorama Panthers handily, with a final score of 69-3. The Wildcats faced the AC/GC Chargers in a thriller of a game, but ultimately were defeated 26-28.
Previewing season statistical leaders, senior Ben Gilliland leads Van Meter in both Passing yards and rushing yards. He’s completed 24 of 36 passes for 325 passing yards and 6 touchdowns, while racking up 307 rushing yards and 5 touchdowns on 42 carries. Fellow senior Matt Kerber leads the Bulldogs in receiving yards with 88 yards and 1 touchdown on a single catch. Senior Michael Banks leads Van Meter in tackles, with 19 total tackles, 3 tackles for a loss of yards, and 1 sack,
For the Wildcats, junior Nate Gerling leads the team in passing yards, completing 17 of 37 passes for 263 passing yards and 2 touchdowns. Gerling has also recorded 43 rushing yards and 1 rushing touchdown. Senior Braiden Beane leads West Central Valley in both rushing yards and receiving yards, collecting 257 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns on 34 carries, and 73 receiving yards on 5 receptions. Fellow senior Kaedon Lindsay leads the Wildcats in tackles, with 28 total tackles and 4 tackles for a loss of yards.
