As September continues to roll on so does Preparedness Month and week two focuses on making a plan in case of a disaster.
Emergency Management Coordinator for Adair and Guthrie Counties Bob Kempf says that making a plan could possibly be the most important step for preparedness. He encourages everyone to sit down with their family and make different plans for severe weather or incase of a fire.
“So one of the biggest things out of planning is how are you going to communicate? Communication these days is one of the biggest things you know. How are you going to let someone outside the area know that you’re okay? How are you going to get in touch with your children if they’re not home? Where are you going? To meet a relative’s house, a neighbor’s house, you know, whatnot.”
Kempf says another part of planning for a disaster is having that emergency kit prepared with a copy of insurance and social security cards. He explains that having the AlertIowa messaging on your phone is a tool to have, which is a statewide emergency notification system.
