The City of Perry recently undertook a project to get city-owned facilities under the power of solar energy, and all of the facilities are now up and running.
Ten buildings were slated for solar power capabilities when the Perry City Council approved the project in 2021 with the project also getting underway last year. City Administrator Sven Peterson gives an update on the overall project.
“All of them are on. I think we are just waiting on a few punch list items, most of which are some seeding and ground restoration work that we need to wait until the fall seeding window to get taken care of. All of the systems are producing electricity and we are excited to see that power coming from the sun.”
The project aims to offset all of the electrical use from the city-owned facilities and Peterson says over a 30-year lifespan it could save residents $4-5 million.
