There will be a hunter education field day course taking place soon in Dallas County and there is still time to get registered.

Iowa Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer in Dallas County Dustin Eighmy says the course will take place from 6-9 p.m. Friday at the Washington Township School near Minburn. Eighmy says those attending need to take the online portion of the program and bring the certificate with them the night of the field day.

“We go over all aspects of how to safely handle your firearm, pointing that muzzle in a safe direction. You have an officer actually there in front of those students where they can make eye contact and face to face, get introduced with that officer and we go over the hunter regulations, touch on those, hunter ethics and it just gives them an opportunity to ask those questions that they might not know.”

Eighmy tells Raccoon Valley Radio he encourages people to show up for the class especially with it being close by and you may have to travel if you can’t make it to this class.

“Pheasants Forever members are going to be there promoting that program and offering a free supper for your kiddos so you don’t have to provide food that evening for your kid, get there and learn a lot about what’s going on with hunter education. Just make sure that you take that online portion prior to that class.”
