West Central Valley High School has implemented new basketball shot clocks in their gym before the school year got started.

Athletic Director Ethan Calvert says putting up two shot clocks was a summer project after the Iowa High School Athletic Association and the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union now require them for varsity boys and girls basketball. Calvert says the shot clocks will be 35 seconds during games and it will have to be run by a separate volunteer.

“It’s going to definitely be a learning curve. We always get to find volunteers and workers to run various things, especially when it comes to basketball. But I think we’re going to have plenty of people who are willing to help out. So that’s exciting.”

The shot clock is mounted on top of the backboard of the basketball hoop. And the shot clock will not be required for non varsity basketball games, but can be used.
