With the 2022-23 school year officially underway more buses will be out taking kids to and from school and it’s important to keep some safety tips in mind.
Adel-DeSoto-Minburn School Resource Officer Monte Keller says during the school year motorists should pay extra attention as there is more traffic and school buses on the road.
“When drivers see the bus, especially with the stop arm out, typically the amber lights are going to be coming on first and then the stop arm will extend and then there will be flashing red lights on the bus that indicate that any driver coming from the front or the rear of the bus should come to a complete stop and make sure they stop until the stop arm is retracted on the bus.”
Keller tells Raccoon Valley Radio drivers should be more attentive throughout the school year as students will be out going to school and Keller says the police department also helps out with keeping things safe.
“We ramp up patrol in those school areas in the mornings and afternoons at dismissal time but even with all those things in place it’s still important to give out those reminders to drivers in those areas as well to stay extra vigilant and be extra cautious.”
