Peg Morlan-Gannon, 2022 Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame Inductee.

The 2022 Iowa State Fair has come to a close and a number of Greene County residents were represented.

Greene County ISU Extension 4-H and Youth Coordinator Samantha Hardaway tells Raccoon Valley Radio there were 44 purple ribbons for livestock, horse and dog, along with ten blue ribbons and 12 red ribbons for static exhibits. She talks about the sheer amount of entries at the state fair the 4-H’ers had in her first year as the 4-H and Youth Coordinator.

“Yeah we definitely have a lot of kids at the state fair this year. I just think it’s amazing that they’re able to do this, I mean you might not be going to the state fair to win grand champion, but that experience that you’re learning at the state fair is something that those kids will take on for the rest of their lives. So it’s something I want to encourage all kids to do and it’s something that I’ll continue to encourage in the future.

Other 4-H accolades included Treynor Cose as Grand Champion Western Walk Trot, Briella McDonald as Grand Champion Barrels for horse, Emmalin Wright earned the division III champion for breeding sheep, and Bralyee Cose was Beginners Novice A Champion for dog.

As for Greene County FFA, Allison Fields was the main highlight IN horse as the Champion Western-Type and the chapter was fifth overall in team standings. In open class, Marianne Carlson added to her total of top placements winning five food contests and earning over $1,500 in cash and gift cards.

Finally, Peg Morlan-Gannon was this year’s Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame inductee. After starting her career in 4-H in the 1960s, she continues to be an active participant, having served as rabbit superintendent, a Youth Development Committee member, and Lamb Producer.
