School has started all across Iowa and that means motorists will have to use caution around school buses.
Guthrie County Sheriff Marty Arganbright says that every year they have an issue with impatient motorists passing school buses when they have red lights and the cross bar activated. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio this is a problem the Sheriffs Office is very passionate about.
“It’s something they don’t take lightly and we (Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office) don’t, we don’t want students getting hit by a car or hurt, everyone needs to pay attention and not be distracted and know that there are buses out and they will stop here and there.”
Arganbright states that it is a very easy process for them to find the motorist breaking the law.
“Buses now in Guthrie County have cameras on them, inside the bus and the outside, so if someone does run the stop light or red lights on a bus. It’s all captured in a video and they send the video to (the Sheriff’s Office).”
Arganbright explains that those who break this law will receive a significant fine and lose their licenses for a period of time. He adds that motorists also need to be aware of the changing speed limits while students are getting out of school.
