Farmers who are interested in checking their corn crop for possible complications can do so for free tomorrow in Greene County.
Greene County ISU Extension is offering a free stalk nitrate testing for three corn stalks. According to Greene County Extension, a corn plant that is stunted or not growing normally or is drought stressed can get nitrates built up in the stalk. Those who bring in three stalks are encouraged to choose different levels of maturity. An acid test will be conducted on the stalks themselves with Extension Field Agronomist Mike Witt.
The tests will be done at the Extension office in Jefferson from 1-3pm tomorrow. No pre-registration is necessary.
