Panorama quarterback Cayden VanMeer orchestrated an up-tempo style of offense very smoothly Friday night as Panorama pulled away late from Perry 39-21 in a week 0 matchup at Dewey Field. The game was delayed nearly an hour due to severe weather in the area.
VanMeer and the offense piled up over 375 yards of offense with a new up tempo pace that VanMeer seemed to excel in. The junior quarterback completed 16 passes with 13 of them going to Bradaen Draper. The Panthers utilized the wide receiver screen all night and the duo of VanMeer and Draper put up impressive season opening numbers. Unofficially, Draper finished with 13 receptions for 153 yards while VanMeer threw for over 200 yards. Senior running back Ryan Cogil looked healthy as well, galloping for two long touchdown runs while leading the ground game for Panorama.
The game was tied at 14 midway through the third quarter but that’s when Panorama went on a 25-0 run over the next ten minutes to put the game away. Perry’s rushing attack was effective boasting a pair of 100 yard rushers. Juan Hernandez tallied 118 yards on the ground while fullback Keegan Synder provided the muscle inside with 109 yards rushing. Both running backs scored on touchdown runs. Kaden Heck threw a late touchdown to Holden Smith against the Panorama reserves to close out the scoring on the night.
Perry falls to 0-1 and will travel to Ogden Friday night, while Panorama starts the year 1-0 and will head to Colfax on Friday.
