An annual event is returning tomorrow with the Crossroads Church in Perry that allows people to get needed items for free.
Administrative Assistant Heather Karolus says the Garage Free event hasn’t taken place throughout the past few years due to the coronavirus as well as building renovations. Karolus says this event began approximately 14 years ago as a way to help the community.
“The Garage Free is an opportunity we take to share good, clean and usable items with people who might need them in the community and the surrounding area and it’s all free. So, people donate items, sometimes this time of year we get stuff that people couldn’t get rid of in their garage sale and they don’t want it anymore and they drop it off and we get it all organized and open the doors and anybody who wants to come in and see what they can find is welcome.”
Karolus tells Raccoon Valley Radio there will be a wide variety of items available including children’s clothes, school supplies along with various other items.
“There is definitely an excitement. It’s something we’ve always enjoyed doing. I’ve been involved every year in some aspect and there’s just always been kind of an excitement to come together and those of us who volunteer we work together, it takes about three or four days to set it up and then Saturday morning just to be there and help people find stuff or help carry stuff out to their cars.”
Karolus says any items that are left over after the event will be donated to organizations that will take the items. The Annual Garage Free event will take place from 8 a.m. to noon tomorrow at the Crossroads Church in Perry.
