Iowa high school football teams are allowed one scrimmage with another school that doesn’t count on the season record. Greene County will be scrimmaging at Nevada tomorrow night vs. the Cubs, a Class 3A program that had success in 2021, as did the Rams in 2A. Coach Caden Duncan told Raccoon Valley Radio the varsity squads start off the night at 6 o’clock with two 20 minute quarters with a continuous clock. The lower levels will scrimmage to finish off the event.

Greene County has a young squad this season with just five seniors, including a Norwegian foreign exchange student who is new to the game. That being said, expectations remain high after the 2021 team went unbeaten in 2A District 8 and finished 8-2 overall. The youth on the team means the coaching staff went back to the basics more than last season. “It’s been kind of refreshing, or just a little different having to go back to square one on some things to begin. But we’ve been excited to see the progress guys have made and we’re excited for them to display their skills. There will be some names that are going to burst onto the scene this year that maybe a lot of people haven’t heard of unless they’re familiar with those kids personally, but I think it’s going to be a really neat see to see our next wave of kids start to get involved on the varsity level.

The first game that counts on the varsity record was to have been on Aug. 26 in Jefferson vs. ACGC, but due to sod issues, the season opener will now be at Ogden High School on Saturday, Aug. 27 at 7 p.m., still with ACGC. That game can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
