More progress is being made at the Landus Cooperative site in Jefferson.

Jefferson Location Lead Brian Hill told the Greene County Development Corporation Board earlier this month that the 150-foot concrete structures have been erected and there’s still a lot of electrical components that need to be installed inside. He said crews will also have the four smaller steel bins to be done. Hill talked about how diligently the contractor worked to get the larger structures done.

“They had 65 guys from Emperor Ag, who is the contractor, then they bring in 65 others from Texas.  Basically these guys just go from slip to slip across the nation. They went 24/7, 12 hour shifts.”

CEO Matt Carstens says despite the issues they had with last year’s explosion, they were still able to take grain and transport it. He talks about the final component they have left on the reconstruction project.

“The only thing that we are waiting on is that rebuild along the rail, which is small storage, but it’s the key component to loading trains. So still no trains are being loaded there. But we hope that by early 2023 we’ll be loading trains again out of that facility, which again really has no effect on the farmers, it’s really just how we get the grain out of that site after harvest.

Carstens adds this rebuild is an example of Landus’ commitment to improving overall safety of its employees and clients moving forward at the Jefferson site.
