The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.

The Board approved a resolution to participate in the Safe Streets and Roads for All grant application for that program, as well as an Iowa Department of Transportation agreement for a surface transportation block grant program for federal-aid swap project. They also approved abating $28,602 of property taxes for the law enforcement center administrative building, due to not catching it from being on the tax rolls until after the first tax-paying year. County Treasurer Katlynn Mechaelsen assured the Supervisors this will not be an issue moving forward.

The Board then reviewed and discussed a request from the Greene County E-911 Service Board for a new communications tower and radio equipment. The estimated cost was $3,700,000 for a tower, required equipment, generators and mobile radios for all needed county departments. The issue has been communicating locally with departments because the state developed a new radio system. The Board will pursue paying for the project through essential county purpose bonds. A public hearing will be set next week.

They also reviewed its mid-year county health plan with Group Benefit Partners and didn’t take action following the discussion. Finally, the Board agreed to allow a holiday light display on the Greene County Courthouse for Veterans Day and they discussed details of an utility scale solar panel ordinance, ahead of setting a public hearing later this month.
