Gary Overla is a candidate to be the representative for Iowa House District 47 and he discussed many topics in his campaign stop in Panora on Sunday.
Overla said he grew up in Ohio, lives in Dallas Center along with close to 30 years as a teacher at Perry High School and now a Democrat candidate for the Iowa House of Represenatitives. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio a big reason why he decided to run for the State House is education.
“Some of the things that I heard coming out of the state house last year with the school vouchers and teachers having an evil agenda and, you know, things like that is what prompted me to run. Of course, I was asked to and I probably wouldn’t have had I not been asked. But having been asked and thinking about it, talking it over with my family and everything, I thought it was a good idea to do so.”
Overla talked with a crowd of 15 members of Guthrie County about school vouchers, open enrollment deadlines, womens right to choose and much more. He will face Carter Nordman the Republican imcubamant in the newly drawn House District 47 which includes Greene and Guthrie counties and a portion of Dallas County, including Perry and Dallas Center.
