As the coronavirus continues to impact people, a new vaccine is now approved for adults to receive.

Dallas County Health Department Public Information Officer Ann Cochran says they currently have doses available of the new Novavax COVID-19 vaccine which is a protein-based vaccine similar to many others used for routine childhood vaccinations.

“It is currently authorized as a primary series for anyone 18-years-old or older and anyone who has not been vaccinated at all for COVID-19 and is at least 18-years-old can simply call their healthcare provider or call Dallas County (Public) Health to schedule a vaccine appointment for the Novavax product. This product is not authorized for use as a booster dose at this time.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention the Novavax vaccine is a two-dose series administered three to eight weeks apart.
