While free lunches will no longer be available for public schools across the country this year, the Perry Community School District will still be offering free breakfast for students.

The US Department of Agriculture recently announced that for the 2022-23 school year free lunches will not be possible but Superintendent Clark Wicks says free breakfast will be available to students in the district this year through Federal Funding.

“It’s a great opportunity to get kids started with breakfast in the morning and we’ll be able to do that. Again, lunch will be at the usual rate that we had, or a little bit higher than the rate we had a couple years ago, but no longer a free lunch which I think is going to work out fine. A chance for a free breakfast is a big bonus and having lunch how it was is also I think the way to go.”

As a reminder, families can also apply for the free and reduced meals program, with those applications already being sent out and returned before August 22nd by having the applications mailed or dropped off at any school district building.
