Residents of Stuart are coming together to honor the life of Brian Moon, a former member of the Stuart-Menlo High School Baseball team.

Organizer Mason Hasty says they are putting a slow pitch co ed adult softball tournament to honor Moon this Saturday. Hasty explains Moon was probably one of the best baseball players to come through the Stuart area and he also attended Dana College to play baseball in Blair, Nebraska and was an All-American. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio the passion Moon had for the game made them want to put this tournament together.

“He was a huge baseball fan. I just hearing stories from the Moons. It’s really cool to catch up with him and hear how good he actually was at baseball and not only here in Stuart, but also going on to college to have that much success. We haven’t seen that much success through baseball players here at West Central Valley.”

The Brian Moon Classic will start with registration at 8am at Jim Kloewer Field in Stuart and the tournament will require a team of 10 people including three women with an entry fee of $200. All proceeds from the event will go towards a scholarship for a student at West Central Valley High School. For more information about registration click the link below.
