Later today the Greene County Historical Society is sponsoring a free movie at the Sierra Community Theatre.
The 1980 movie, “Whitcomb’s War” is a comedy about the character Pastor David Michael Whitcomb who is assigned to a church in Harrah, Iowa. However, an employer, Phil Esteem changes the work week to Wednesday through Sunday and Pastor Whitcomb leads a protest against working on Sunday.
Historical Society Member Chuck Offenburger says most of the 67-minute film was shot in Jefferson, with a few scenes in Fort Dodge. Several Greene County residents are in the movie, including Jed Magee, Pauline Borst, Bob Telleen and Rolfe Blaess. Muriel Lehman arranged and delivered props for the actors. The movie also stars Patrick Pankhurt and Leon Charles.
Magee will also lead a discussion prior to the free showing at 2pm. The movie is free and open to the public and concessions will be available for purchase.
