As the Grand Junction Fun Days hits its second day, there is a full slate of activities.
Today is the parade at 10am, with the route starting at the former bus barn, going along Hager Street to 9th Street and ending by the municipal swimming pool. A petting zoo is near the library, also starting at 10am. Then from 11am-2pm is the Lions Club Car Show and food vendors at the city park, with awards for the car show at 2:30pm. The carnival takes place from noon-4pm and 6-10pm at the former school property.
Then at 3pm is the two-person cornhole tournament and a dunk tank also at the school property. Check-ins for the cornhole tournament are at 2:30pm and it is a double elimination contest with the top four teams receiving cash prizes. The day wraps up with the beer tent from 3pm-midnight with musical entertainment from Standing Hampton from 8pm-midnight.
With temperatures expected to be in the mid to higher 90s with the possibility of a heat index reaching into the triple digits, Grand Junction Fun Days Co-organizer Linda Hoffman says there will be help standing by in case people get overheated.
“Well of course we will have people on site that are from our local fire and rescue department, the Grand Junction Fire and Rescue. They’re actually helping us out with the dunk tank, they’re helping us out with the beer tent. We’ll have plenty of folks around.”
Sunday will be a pool party from 1-3pm with free hotdogs, chips and drinks available.
