Recently the US House and Senate approved the CHIPS and Science Act which hopes to solve the supply chain issues and boost American jobs.

Congresswoman Cindy Axne says she voted for the $280 billion legislative package to increase semiconductor manufacturing which isused in a wide range of consumer goods like vehicles, computers and other electronics.

Axne tells Raccoon Valley Radio $52 billion of the legislation will go towards American manufacturers to build, expand and modernize their facilities for semiconductor development and more.

“Far too often this country has offshored manufacturing, let good paying jobs leave our country. And we haven’t been producing the goods that we need to to keep us really functioning in the way that we should.”

She adds that this bill targets China because the US has relied too much on them for necessary goods.

“This is a matter of national security, and it’s time that we really take a hard look at these issues in this country and keep us safe from places like China. I’ve been talking about cybersecurity issues since I started running for the seat in 2017. It is our biggest national security threat.”

The Chips and Science Act passed with bipartisan support in the Senate with a vote of 64 to 33 and was approved by the House by a vote of 243 to 187.
