Martin McGinn
The next Summer Concert Series with the Thomas Jefferson Gardens of Greene County is this weekend.
Jefferson native Marty McGinn will perform Saturday at 6pm in the gardens. He is a 1999 Jefferson High School graduate and earned his bachelor’s degree in music composition from the University of Iowa. McGinn moved to California to study with Pauline Oliveros at Mills College and also earned his master’s degree in composition in 2005. He taught piano privately and played professionally while in California.
McGinn is also a songwriter, working under the pseudonym Art Elliot. He received the Best Song by Oakland Solo Artist Award at the inaugural Oaktown Music Festival for his original song “Earth Abides.” In 2021, he and his family moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The free concert begins at 7pm and attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs. Additionally, there will be food provided by Sara Ostrander of The Centennial in Jefferson with snack packs called “grazing” boxes, which can be reserved by contacting her at 515-386-3888.
