The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.

The Board discussed cost estimates for a new county jail with engineering firm ISG. The $12,032,000 facility would include 20 cells, four holding rooms, a Sally Port for prisoner intake, along with other furniture and interior items, site construction with underground utilities and a 15-percent contingency fund for the jail to be located south of the current law enforcement center administrative building on East Lincoln Way in Jefferson. The Board is expected to continue discussions with Northland Securities about getting the proposed project ready for a public vote in November.

The Board also re-appointed Karla Janning to the Region XII Council of Governments Regional Housing Authority Board, and adding Heartland Bank as a bank depository not to exceed $5 million of county funds.

Additionally, the Board heard an update from County Attorney Thomas Laehn. He said the courthouse security committee has finalized three policies that will be presented to the Board for consideration at a future meeting. Those include courthouse access, security cameras and their use, and heightened security for different situations. He also presented the Board with all of the county’s ordinances for recodification to be done also at a future meeting. The Board took no action from either discussion topic.
