The Dallas County Courthouse currently has scaffolding on the building as renovations are underway.
The courthouse is undergoing approximately $3 million worth of exterior improvements which is being handled by Building Restoration Corporation and was approved by the Board of Supervisors this past June. Supervisor Mark Hanson talks about the history behind the courthouse.
“It’s a Proudfoot and Bird designed building. George Bird saw a chateau in France and said, ‘I like the way that looks, I’m going to design a courthouse for Dallas County that’s got the same sort of concept,’ and since it’s a 1902 building you’ve got to repair, you’ve got to restore, you’ve got to update.”
Hanson tells Raccoon Valley Radio the work is a complete overhaul of the building including tuck pointing and cleaning among other work. Hanson says before the winter comes the first four floors should be done on the exterior but more work will need done next year as well.
“Then next spring when the weather clears they will be erecting scaffolding to continue the final phases of doing the tower and any roof repair that may or may not be required. That building is majestic in its exterior appearance and it’ll be more so when the job is complete.”
The plan is to have the work be finished on the courthouse by the end of July 2023.
