Greene County’s softball team was young in terms of what grades the players were in, but had a mixture of experience. The team went 13-13 and made definite strides this season, including the first season since 2016 where the losses did not out number the wins.
Head Coach Tom Kennedy and assistants Marissa Promes and JJ Hoyle had five junior starters with a combined 15 seasons of varsity experience. The other five starters (including Designated Player) had almost no varsity experience. What transpired was a slow start in the win/loss column with a 1-6 record in the first seven games. Then, the wins starting to happen and the Rams went 5-2 down the stretch.
2022 Paton-Churdan graduate Carmyn Paup was the lone senior on the team and the shortstop will leave a void there, but with so many players returning in 2023, there is certainly reason for optimism. In fact, the Rams have more players with varsity starting experience eligible to return in 2023 than than are spots in the lineup. The five seniors-to-be will lead the way starting with pitcher Emma Hoyle, catcher Emma Stream, first baseman Paige Teeples, center fielder Olivia Shannon, and left fielder Alexa Peters.
