The Jefferson City Council met Tuesday night in regular session.

The Council approved a resolution for a memorandum of understanding with the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Iowa Council 61 for a one time adjustment to wages for police department employees of 2.75-percent increase and a three-percent increase for all other union employees. This change will go into effect August 1st. Additionally, there will be a three-percent wage increase for the final two years of the contract.

The Council also approved a resolution for all non-union employees to receive an additional two-percent wage increase and they amended the city administrator’s contract to include an additional two-percent wage increase. Both changes are to start August 1st and are for the remainder of the current fiscal year.

Finally, the Council also approved the third reading to amend two ordinances. One of the amendments was to include microchipping of impounded dogs and the other was to charge a service fee for the volunteer fire department when they respond to large structure fires, such as the explosion at Landus Cooperative last summer.
