If it seems like more people are on vacation this week than usual, you could be right. The Iowa High School Athletic Association and Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union have designated this week at “Family Week’ so families could spend time together. That can be difficult, especially those with high school students in activities. That’s why the State softball and State baseball tournaments were held last week, and no activities are on the calendar this week.

In fact, athletes cannot use school facilities or have any instruction of any kind from any school coaches this week. Aug. 1 is the first date school athletic camps can be held. Greene County head football coach Caden Duncan has Greene County’s camps for youth, middle school, and high school age athletes to begin next week.

Monday, Aug. 8 is the first official date for all boys and girls high school Fall sports practices in Iowa to begin.
