It’s that time of year again for Greene County New Opportunities as they are looking to help less fortunate families with school-related items.
The Back to School Supply Drive is underway. Greene County New Opportunities is taking applications for families that are in need of help this school year securing supplies before the start of the upcoming school year. The applications are for those in preschool through eighth grade and there is an online link for a survey for families to take so that they are eligible to receive assistance. Deadline to sign up is August 5th.
Additionally, school supply donations are also being accepted. Suggested items include backpacks, number two pencils, red, blue and black ink pens; glue sticks, three and five subject spiral notebooks, loose-leaf wide ruled paper, one-inch binders, pencil bags or boxes, erasers, sticky notes, 16-count crayons and washable markers. Those supplies can be dropped either at New Opportunities in Jefferson or at Jefferson Telecom. CEO Jamie Daubendiek says they’ve been doing this drive for several years and he’s happy to continue this partnership with New Opportunities.
“It’s a great way to give back to the community and you know I grew up here in the school district and had a great time, loved the school district. It’s tough, especially due to inflation causing prices to rise. We don’t want this to be a reason not for anybody to be in school and be able to have the school supplies that they need in order to have a great time in school.”
Donations are accepted through August 12th. Click the link below to take the online survey application.
