An Indianola man received multiple felonies after being involved in a traffic stop in Adel earlier this week.

According to court documents, 39-year-old Derrick Nestvedt was arrested and charged with a Class B Felony for a controlled substance violation, a Class D Felony for failure to affix a drug stamp and serious misdemeanors for possession or carrying of a dangerous weapon while under the influence, operating while under the influence first offense, unlawful possession of a prescription drug and possession of a controlled substance marijuana first offense.

According to criminal complaints filed by the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office at 2:17 a.m. July 18th Nestvedt was allegedly stopped for no registration and upon contact indications of impairment were observed. A license check showed that Nestvedt had a suspended driver’s license and standard field sobriety tests were conducted showing impairment.

A narcotics K9 was deployed on the vehicle which allegedly indicated an odor of narcotics which led to a probable cause search which yielded more than seven grams of a substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine. Also, found was drug paraphernalia in smoking devices, marijuana and marijuana wax. Also pills were found that were suspected to be Xanax and Nestvedt stated he did not have a prescription.

A 9mm handgun was also located in the vehicle and Nestvedt was also not in possession of a drug tax stamp.
