As we continue looking at the stats recorded by both baseball and softball players for the West Central Valley Wildcats today, we’ll start with sophomore Colten Kern from the baseball team. He started and played in 27 games, getting 80 at bats, with 26 runs and 21 hits. He hit 18 singles and 3 doubles for 11 RBI’s, and also had 1 sacrifice fly.
Kern was walked 19 times, hit by 6 pitches, and reached on error 6 times, while being struck out 21 times. He recorded a batting average of .262, an on base percentage of .434, and a slugging percentage of .300. He went 9 of 9 on stolen bases, had 6 assists, 27 put outs, and a fielding percentage of .892. In the pitching stats, Kern recorded 27 innings pitched, 529 pitches, faced off against 154 batters, allowing an opponent batting average of .325, allowed 50 hits, 43 runs, and 24 earned runs, finishing the season with an ERA of 6.22.
For the softball team, junior Kinsey Alt was a key part of the team’s phenomenal season. She started and played in all 37 games, racking up 113 at bats, which gave her 43 runs, and 42 hits. She hit 33 singles, 6 doubles, 2 triples, and one homerun, to rack up 23 RBI’s, and also had 3 sacrifice bunts, and a sacrifice fly.
Alt was walked 16 times, hit by 8 pitches, and reached on error 7 times, while being struck out 19 times. She recorded a batting average of .372, an on base percentage of .478, and a slugging percentage of .487. She went 29 of 32 on stolen bases, and recorded 15 assists, 146 put outs, and a fielding percentage of .982. Alt was also named to the Honorable Mention team for the West Central Activities Conference.
