In the past week, the average temperatures and timely rainfall helped push along tasseling corn.

According to the Iowa’s Crop Progress Report, Iowa farmers were able to get 5.6 suitable fieldwork days with most of the fieldwork including cutting hay and starting fungicide applications.

Corn  statewide is rated  81-percent good to excellent and one-percent of reports show corn crop has reached the dough stage. 13-percent of soybean crops are setting pods which is one week behind last year but soybeans are rated 78-percent good to excellent.

The report explains that the hot temperatures, dry conditions and limited chances of rain will likely expand the drought to northwest Iowa.
