The 2022 Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union State Softball Tournament continues today north of Ft. Dodge at Rogers Sports Complex. One of the Class 3A semifinals has particular interest in Greene County for a couple of reasons. When top ranked and top seeded Mount Vernon meets Saydel (Des Moines), it will be the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference champion Eagles against a Mt. Vernon team coached by 1991 Jefferson-Scranton graduate Robin Olhausen Brand. She’s the daughter of Roger and Rose Olhausen of Jefferson.

Greene County met Saydel three times this season and went 0-3, losing 3-2, 5-0, and 1-0 in a Region 2 semifinal. the Eagles have played four postseason games and none had a final margin as close as the game on July 9 with Greene County. The Saydel/Mt. Vernon winner goes to Friday’s 3A title game while the losing team plays Friday for third place.
