The 7th seeded Winterset Huskies fell to Western Dubuque 4-3 in the opening round of the class 3A state baseball tournament Monday night in Iowa City.  The game wrapped up just before midnight.  Garrett Kadolph delivered a two-run walk off double off the centerfield wall in the bottom of the 7th inning to send the Bobcats into the semifinals Wednesday.

The Huskies grabbed a 3-2 lead in the fifth inning following back to back RBI hits from Austin Jordan and Tate Thompson.  Jensen Kaldenburg gave the Huskies an early 1-0 lead with a RBI hit in the third.  Senior right hander Justin Hackett went four solid innings allowing two earned runs while striking out five.  The pitch count was a factor in lifting him after hitting 90 pitches through four innings.  Jake Porter was outstanding out of the bullpen tossing scoreless frames in both the fifth and sixth inning but hit 40 pitches with one out in the seventh inning after working the count full to Jake Goodman.  Winterset made the decision to try and preserve Porter for a Wednesday night semifinal and Western Dubuque followed with two walks and a hit batter, setting up the bases loaded, two out heroics from Kadolph.  The senior hit the ball some 395 feet to the deepest part of Banks Stadium on a 1-2 count and the Bobcats celebrated the walk off win.

Winterset closes out another strong season with a record of 16-15 while Western Dubuque advances to the semi’s to take on Sgt Bluff Luton Wednesday.
