Greene County bowed out of both the postseason baseball and softball tournaments in the second round, but the teams that ended the seasons for the Rams will be playing in their respective State Tournaments next week.

In softball, Saydel (Des Moines) stopped the Rams 1-0 in the Region 2 Class 3A semifinal at Saydel on July 9. The Eagles handled their other two postseason opponents by a combined score of 18-2. The Eagles play at 7:30 p.m. Monday vs. Davis County (Bloomfield) in the 3A quarterfinals. All State softball games are north of Ft. Dodge at Rogers Sports Complex.

Unbeaten Van Meter is going for its fourth Class 2A State baseball title in a row and the Bulldogs are the heavy favorites with a 35-0 record this season and a winning streak of 50 straight dating back to last season. VM was a 7-0 winner at Van Meter on July 7 in a 2A District 4 semifinal. The Bulldogs play Kuemper Catholic at Merchants Park in Carroll on Tuesday night in a 2A quarterfinal. VM is the top seed and the Knights are seeded eighth, but Merchants Park is the home field for Kuemper Catholic.
