Today marks the change when the 988 National Suicide Hotline Number goes into effect for everyone across the United States. 

Minburn Communications Marketing and Customer Relations Manager Kristi Petersen says this change also coincides with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) implementing 10-digit dialing as mandatory across the country to allow the 988 suicide hotline to work. 

“I think this is going to be the new trend. The ten-digit dialing is being implemented across the country. Iowa has two area codes, we are 1 of 39 states that this is impacting and it is based off of the FCC implementing the three digit suicide hotline number 988.”

Petersen tells Raccoon Valley Radio if anyone has questions regarding 10-digit dialing or the 988 National Suicide Hotline number they can visit the FCC website or they can visit the Minburn Communications website here.

Beginning today if you dial 988 you will be routed to the National Suicide Prevention Hotline.
