Greene County High School senior-to-be McKinley Robbins left today for Fargo, North Dakota, and the US Marine Corps Junior Nationals Wrestling Tournament. Robbins is a member of Sebolt Wrestling Academy of Jefferson and will compete in freestyle at 138 lbs. Another Greene County 2023 senior, Kale Petersen, qualified for Fargo, but is nursing a shoulder injury and isn’t scheduled to compete. He also qualified in freestyle.
Both are Iowa high school State Champions. Petersen won for Greene County at 120 lbs. last February in Class 2A and was a 1A champion at 106 lbs. for West Fork (Sheffield) in 2021. Robbins is the only wrestler in the long history of the program to qualify for the State finals three times and he did it his first three years of high school, finishing second in 2020 and ’22, and winning a title in 2021.
Wrestlers finishing in the top 8 at Fargo earn All-American status.
