The 2021-22 school year overall was good as far as athletics were concerned with individual boys and boys’ teams shining bright in certain sports. We look back today at Greene County football, a sport shared with Paton-Churdan.
The football Rams went 8-2 with a seven game winning streak and a Class 2A District 8 title. Coach Caden Duncan’s Rams won all five District games under the continuous clock rule with a margin of 35 or more points. They were ranked as high as number three in some polls and lost in the second round of the playoffs to another top five team in OABCIG (Ida Grove). Junior Richard Daugherty and senior Nate Black were on the Iowa Print Sportswriters Association All-State first team in 2A with sophomore Michael Rumley, senior Bradyn Smith, Jackson Morton on the second team. Quarterback Bryce Stalder was a third team selection. Rumley was the only selection on the Des Moines Register 2A All-State team, but that publication only picks one unit.
