The Greene County Fair Board has brought in some additional entertainment as its ground attractions at the fairgrounds in Jefferson.
There will be three acts starting tomorrow with the return of the popular Poppin’ Penelope who does balloon creations, face painting and magic for kids and their families. Fair Board President Connor Juergensen tells Raccoon Valley Radio they are also bringing back Carve R Way to do some chainsaw wood carvings. He talks about the feedback they received from the last time he was at the fair in 2019.
“It went really well, actually surpassed what it cost to get him here. So it was a good venture for us to go on, plus it got a few pieces of neat artwork out into the community, and they supported us really well.”
Juergensen adds the wood carver will do one piece from a dead tree found on the fairgrounds and there will be several others that will be available for a silent auction to bid on inside the administrative building.
The final ground attraction is also the newest one with Richard Renner. Fair Board member Jonathan Marshall says Renner is an actor, juggler and strolling performer on stilts. He talks about how they were able to get a new act for the fair.
“Every year we go down to the Des Moines, to a showcase, it’s how we found Poppin’ Penelope, and then this Richard Renner, there’s a talent agency called Triangle and they have dozens of people. You say what you’re looking for, say ‘I’m looking for a stage act or I’m looking for a walking act.’ And they’ll pull, ‘Well we suggest Richard Renner.’ And that’s how we came across him.”
All ground attractions are free and open to the public. Poppin’ Penelope will be at the fair tomorrow-Sunday, and Carve R Way and Richard Renner will be Thursday-Saturday.
