For the Adair County Fair they are having a competition that will turn into a fundraiser coming up. 

The Adair County Fair will have their Pie Baking contest before the fair starts on Saturday. Adair County Extension Coordinator Valerie Jaehrling says this is the first year the fair will have the pie baking contest. 

“The pie has to be two crusts, top and bottom crust, and it has to be baked with lard and apples. The pies will be baked on Saturday, July 16th. Exhibitors will get time in the kitchen scheduled and then the pies will have time to cool and they will be judged that day.”

Jaehrling says that after the judging each pie will be frozen and put up for sale on their silent auction during the fair. 

“The Silent auction. That’s the main fundraiser that we have for the Four Booster Fund. And our four booster funds are overseen by our Youth Action Committee. And they do things like help purchase awards and T-shirts. They help provide scholarships for for teachers as they graduate”

She says also the funds will be used to pay any fees for 4-H youth conferences or camps. The bidding will start on July 20th at the 4-H and FFA Center at the fair until 6pm on July 23rd.
