The Greene County Youth Athletic Association recently finished up its summer sports season and is preparing for the upcoming fall season.

GCYAA President Travis Warnke tells Raccoon Valley Radio they had over 80 boys for Little League and 90 girls in the softball program, which he points out is above their average number of kids participating in youth baseball and softball.

“I love to see that many kids out getting to learn a sport (and) learn life skills that we’re teaching. That to me, is just great for the community.”

Warnke says registrations just opened for their popular football program. There are two programs, including flag football for third and fourth graders, as well as modified tackle football for fifth and sixth graders. Warnke talks about the life skills that GCYAA provides with their youth football seasons.

“So they learn a lot of team building skills, learning to rely on your teammates for assistance in whatever drill it may be or whatever play we’re going to do on the field. Also learning to take instruction from the coaches and how to take that instruction and as a team be able to function to be able to meet an end goal.”

Registration fee for flag football is $60 per player and $125 per player for tackle football. There is a discount of $10 per additional athlete. Deadline to sign up is August 1st. Click the link below to register.
