With many fireworks going off for the holiday, a veterinarian warns about leaving pets exposed to loud noises.

Guthrie County Veterinary clinic Doctor Doug Frels says the amount of fireworks going off on during the holidays has caused a problem with many pets like dogs or cats that are easily startled. Frels recommends isolating the pet when loud noises start to occur.

“They be kept in a room in the house that maybe has no access to a window or the windows are covered up. I mean, for a good example would be in the basement in a cool room, where they’re not going to be able to hear a lot of noise from fireworks in the neighborhood.”

He explains that an owner needs to do everything to try and alleviate the stress of what an animal is going through because the biggest risk is the pet running away.
