Greene County was a 7-0 high school baseball winner over Panorama on Saturday evening east of Stuart at West Central Valley High School in the opening round of Class 2A District 4 play. The win improves Greene County’s record to 8-14 while the Panthers end their season 7-17.
The winning pitcher was senior Bryce Stalder. He went the first five-plus innings, allowing no runs on two hits and no walks with eight strikeouts. Senior Joe Carey went the last two innings, fanning five batters and hitting one with a pitch. Losing pitcher Brice Taylor struck out nine Rams in 5-2/3 innings.
Greene County had eight hits and took advantage of three Panorama errors, each leading to at least one unearned run. Senior Justin Stream gave the Rams a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning with a solo homer to left, the first round-tripper of his career. Stalder doubled and singled, and senior Max Riley singled twice. Senior Kole Teeples, sophomore Gabe Ebersole, and junior Dakota Mobley each singled. Riley drove in two runs with one each by Stream and Mobley.
The Rams had single runs in the second and fourth innings, with three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth.
