As the heat of the summer continues there is a dangerous situation that no parent wants to be in and that is leaving a child in a hot vehicle.
Greene County Public Health Director Becky Wolf tells Raccoon Valley Radio this tragic scenario happens every year and ultimately can lead to an accidental death. She reminds parents to have a system in place that prevents you from leaving a child in your vehicle.
“Some of your sources will say, well put a stuffed animal or something that belongs to your child in your front seat next to you, so that it triggers you to stop what you’re doing. Before you get out of the vehicle and lock it up, look in behind you to see if that car seat has a child in it.”
Wolf advises don’t ever leave your child in a parked vehicle because temperatures inside a vehicle can increase by 20 degrees within ten minutes and having a cracked window isn’t enough to provide relief.
