An event kicked off Friday morning to help community members in the Greene County School District meet the new superintendent.

Coffee and Conversations with Superintendent Brett Abbotts was held at the middle school cafeteria. The Toronto, Ontario native became a US citizen last year and started his educational career in South Dakota. He was most recently the building principal at Roosevelt Elementary in Council Bluffs for six years. He is married to his wife Kourtney for nine years and they have two children: a three and seven year old, along with a teenage foreign exchange student from Norway that will live with them starting July 23rd.

Abbotts talked about the opportunity to be the new superintendent of the Greene County School District as a dream and a middle ground in terms of student population, where he’s worked anywhere from class sizes of 130 to 9,000. He said he wants to get away from the old adage of “That’s the way we’ve always done it” and be more creative, outside-the-box thinking in terms of instruction and student learning.

The next Coffee and Conversations with Superintendent Brett Abbotts will be next Friday, July 8th from 8:30-9:30am at the middle school cafeteria.
