Greene County started the high school softball season losing six of its first seven games. A 13-3 victory over Nevada in six innings by the 10 run rule in Jefferson Wednesday night saw the Rams square their regular season mark at 12-12. All that’s left is the postseason starting Wednesday, July 6 in Harcourt vs. Southeast Valley (Gowrie) in a Class 3A Region 2 quarterfinal.

Coach Tom Kennedy’s team finished the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference season at 5-9 while the Cubs dropped to 2-12 in league play and 6-18 overall. Emma Hoyle pitched all six innings and allowed two earned runs on three hits and two walks. She did not hit a batter. The game was sloppy at times with five Nevada errors and four for Greene County.

The Rams put up 14 hits and junior catcher Emma Stream had a big night in the home finale with a double, single, and a career best six runs batted in. Olivia Shannon, Payton Kokenge, and Alexa Peters all had three hits with with two singles and two RBI from Danielle Madson. Peters, Hoyle, and Chanlyn Cunningham also had runs batted in.
